SPF: The Real Anti-Ageing Hero
Here at Pure Cosmetic, all our clients must be using sunscreen. With that comes a lot of questions. The most common ones we hear are:
“Why do I need to wear sunscreen every day?” and “Do I still need it if it’s cloudy or raining?”
The short answer: absolutely!
The main reason is anti-ageing. Sunscreen (SPF) is our number one cosmeceutical when it comes to preventing premature ageing.
The UV (ultraviolet) radiation we experience especially here in Australia is among the harshest in the world due to the thinning of the ozone layer above us. Even on cloudy days, UV rays bounce off surfaces like car windows, pools, and shiny objects, meaning your skin is still being exposed.
That’s why we always say: wear your SPF every day!
There are two main types of sunscreens: physical and chemical.
Physical sunscreen (also known as zinc-based sunscreen) works by creating a barrier on top of the skin, reflecting UV rays away like a brick wall. It’s especially beneficial for those with melasma, as melasma tends to worsen with heat in the skin.
Chemical sunscreen, on the other hand, absorbs into the skin and works by neutralising UV rays before they can cause damage. Your skin may still feel warm, but it isn’t absorbing harmful radiation.
At Pure Cosmetic, we offer a range of high-quality sunscreens including Uber Zinc (Synergie), K-Ceutic (Dermaceutic), Daily Defence (The Skincare Company), and many more.
💡 Quick tip: Always ensure your sunscreen provides broad-spectrum protection. Meaning it protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
